Once upon a time, Mehmet was one of the young Turks who migrated to Anatolia in 1877-1878 due to the devastating effects of the 93rd War. Mehmet, who had a difficult past due to the pain of war, came to Anatolia from the Balkans for a new life experience.
Mehmet, who was with Temiz İş Bıçakçı, who was operating in the Okçular Bazaar of Anatolia, saw a passion and talent inside him and that moment was the turning point that was measured; he started to work as an apprentice in the knife workshop of Parçakar Yahya Usta.
Mehmet, who was trained by Yahya Usta, continued his devotion to the profession after Yahya Usta's death; as he was learned from the master... The young man, now known as Mehmet Usta, purchased the legacy of his master's works and began to manage the workshop on his own. For many years, Mehmet Usta not only continued his mastery, but also taught these lessons to future generations and came hand in hand to be taken from new masters.
With the enactment of the surname law, he took the surname Pirge, meaning “Master of Masters”.
Over the years, the business increased with the efforts of Mehmet Usta. His son İsmail Pirge, following in his footsteps, focused on purchasing the knifemaking he learned from his father and expanding the business. The trade volume of the company under İsmail Pirge’s management expanded and it opened up to international markets; the first exports were made to Egypt and Iraq.
The Pirge family continued its tradition of mastery and being open to technological innovations for generations. İsmail Pirge’s son Feyzi Pirge took on this great responsibility and tried to combine and carry the innovations brought by the period.
Mehmet Pirge, the only son of Feyzi Pirge, started a new era for the historical Bursa knifemaking by importing Turkey’s first knife grinding machine while passing from the beginning to the end of the business at a young age. With this technological innovation, knifemaking turned towards mechanization and modern structures were provided.
With these innovations, the Pirge Family has turned into a large family with a history of 145 years and more than 250 products. Pirge culture, which includes the 5th generation of the family, continues to develop with the production of more than five million knives for 15 thousand years, participation in international fairs and exports made to more than 80 countries, and continues to sustain the cutting tools sector in Turkey. You too can be a part of the Pirge family and give the opportunity for this story to continue for centuries and for happiness to spread from Bursa to the world.
