One of the biggest draws at IFFA is the competitions organized by the German Butchers' Association (DFV), where there will be quality competitions taking place on each day of the trade show which traditionally attract a large number of entrants from both Germany and abroad. After all, the certificates, medals and trophies which can be won here are recognized worldwide as proof of outstanding quality.

"Platters, snacks, finger foods and canapés"
European Convenience Competition At this competition, the tremendous creativity, innovation and performance of Europe's butchers and meat cutters are on display. This contest highlights the manner in which butchers and meat cutters are reacting to changing consumer expectations and adapting to new developments. This contest involves the creation and presentation of platters, snacks, finger foods and canapés. Entries will be judged on their overall impression, external appearance, the technique used in arranging the foods, decoration and the consistency of the goods on offer.

This competition is conducted in cooperation with the International Butchers' Confederation (IBC). The entry fee is 60 euros plus VAT.

"International Sausage Quality Competition"
This competition makes it possible for sausage manufacturers to compare their own performance with that of international colleagues, while the broader professional audience is able to observe the variety and high quality of international handmade sausages. All producers of handmade meat products are eligible to enter. The products will be judged by category (raw sausage, boiled sausage, cooked sausage and other ready-to-eat products) according to their preparation and external characteristics, appearance, color and composition, consistency, odor and taste.

The entry fee for this competition is 60 euros plus VAT for each product entered.

"International Quality Competition for Raw and Boiled Hams"
This competition offers a chance to present the great variety of handmade ham varieties to the public while demonstrating the extraordinary capabilities of the handmade meats sector worldwide. All producers of handmade meat products are eligible to enter. Eligible for the competition are raw hams and boiled cured products. The products will be judged according to their preparation and external characteristics, appearance, color and composition, consistency, odor and taste.

The entry fee for this competition is 70 euros plus VAT for each product entered.

"International Boiled, Raw and Grilled Sausage Championships"
This competition demonstrates the extraordinary importance of the variety and quality evident in the large sausage product range. All producers of handmade meat products are eligible to enter. The sausages will be judged according to their preparation and external characteristics, appearance, color and composition, consistency, odor and taste.

The entry fee for this competition is 60 euros plus VAT for each product entered.

Further competitions:
The "International Young Butchers’ Competition 2007" will be held on Saturday 5 May 2007 by the International Master Butchers’ Association. This competition is designed to help young people in the butcher’s trade find out about the state of training and trends in training in other countries taking part. Butchery classes show what they can do, a "Competition for vocational colleges", will be held on Wednesday 9 May.

Those taking part in both competitions will be registered directly by the participating organisations.
